John Dennehy is a New York–born activist, journalist, and author who has dedicated his life to building alternatives outside the structures of control. After 9/11, his path as a dissident began with protests against the Iraq War, where he was imprisoned for his activism. That experience led him to leave the United States and settle in Ecuador in 2005. Over the years, John has become a best-selling author and award-winning journalist, writing for outlets such as The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and the BBC. His work has focused on grassroots movements, human freedom, and more recently, the rise of Bitcoin in Latin America.

In August 2021, John moved to El Salvador, recognizing it as the epicenter of a new global movement. There he founded My First Bitcoin, a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to Bitcoin education and empowerment, helping thousands of Salvadorans and people worldwide reclaim financial sovereignty.

For John, Bitcoin is more than technology—it is a chance for humanity to build a more just and resilient future. In 2023, his first child was born in San Salvador, deepening his roots in the country he now calls home.
